What is new for optometry admissions in 2026

  • NEET (UG) as an eligibility criterion: from the 2026-27 academic year, the NCAHP has made appearing in NEET (UG) an eligibility criterion for regulated allied health UG programs, including optometry. Karnataka’s 2026 intake is still transitioning, with KEA/UGCET counselling remaining the main route for RGUHS-affiliated colleges, so check the latest counselling notice for your course.
  • KEA counselling route: RGUHS has directed affiliated allied health colleges to admit students strictly through KEA counselling at government-prescribed fees.
  • Program changes: PES University has discontinued B.Sc Optometry (it appears on neither the official 2026 nor 2027 program lists). S-VYASA University does not offer optometry. Yenepoya’s B.Sc Optometry is offered at its Mangalore campus only, not in Bangalore.
