Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital in Bangalore was founded in July 1981 by the Ananda Social and Educational Trust, which was formed in 1980 by Scheduled Caste intellectuals and philanthropists. The institution was named in honor of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and began operations on government‑allotted land at Kadugondanahalli, relocating to its present 25‑acre campus in May 1987.

The college is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the National Medical Council. The college offers an MBBS program with 150 seats annually plus around 74 postgraduate seats across MD, MS, and diploma specialties.

While the main campus is in Kadugondanahalli (Gandhi Nagar area), there is also an affiliated hospital campus on site. All academic, clinical, hostel, and residential facilities are integrated within this contiguous area.
